Unser internationaler Präsident Darren Dunkley-Smith schreibt dazu: ---------------------------------------------------- Dear Sailors and Coaches. With less than 10 months before the Athens Olympic Regatta, the ISAF Council voted Saturday to remove Drop Races from the Olympic Games competition. In an effort to make sailing more understandable to the Media and to make winning sailors sail the last race, President Henderson had suggested to the Annual ISAF Conference to make the last race of the regatta "UnDroppable", But the Council after discussion decided to remove drop races entirely. Earlier in the week the Olympic Classes Commission had suggested that 2 races should be sailed on the last day to avoid the problem of sailors choosing not to sail the last race... this was obviously ignored. So the Olympic Format for 470 will be 11 Races/No Drop, this will obviously change the Tactics of teams and place even more importance on gear and boat preparation. As 470 President , I think this is a somewhat clumsy way of solving the problem and I would ask if you think we should submit to ISAF to have the single drop race re-installed. I await your opinions. Cheers ---------------------------------------------------- Auf den Seiten der ISAF findet man auch was dazu: http://www.sailing.org/Article_content.asp?ArticleID=5821 und http://www.sailing.org/Article_content.asp?ArticleID=5806 |

Hallo,

Darren Dunkley-Smith schreibt heute: ---------------------------------------------- Dear All ISAF's Council today reversed their decision on the No Drop situation for the Olympics. This is a welcomed "Back flip" that will mean that 470's will sail 11 Races with 1 drop in Athens. It is a win for common sense that will see enough time for discussion on this important issue before next years ISAF Meetings. ISAF said... " ISAF therefore confirms that the system for the 2004 Olympic Regatta will remain as before, with all events, except the double-handed dinghy open - 49er, scheduled to sail an eleven race series with one discard when five to eleven races have been completed, and the 49er scheduled to sail a sixteen race series with one discard when five to eleven races have been completed and two discards when twelve or more races have been completed." ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
